107: Oil Pastel Sketch: The Flower Vase

The Flower Vase... my favourite ceramic vase...
An Oil Pastel Still Life sketch...
Oil Pastels... a versatile medium... the effect can be close to oil paint or acrylics & much easier to handle... although a very tricky medium nevertheless... it may not behave the way you want it to at times.... but fun all the same.

105: Gouache Sketch: Deccan College, Pune, Main Tower

It is certainly so much a pleasure to dabble in a different medium each time you are sketching or painting instead of sticking to a particular medium & even a particular style of painting or sketching. The monotony doesnt exist & the challenge is manifold! At least thats my personal outlook!

So it had to be the Gouache medium this time after a long time. Although water-based, it is opaque, unlike the transparent watercolours. Although the translucent transparency of watercolours is not to be seen in Gouache, its opacity gives it more chance for experimentation & manipulation. And that is fun.

Deccan College, Yerwada, Pune... Alongwith the Urban Sketchers, Pune.
What magnificent gothic architecture! Truly an artist's delight!

104: Charcoal Sketch: Shaniwar Wada, Pune

Shaniwar Wada.... after doing the watercolour painting which I posted earlier, just couldnt resist doing this sketch in charcoal of the same monument albeit from a differnt angle. I guess the place itself is so remarkable, it makes an artist restless to try it out in different mediums.

103: Watercolour Painting: Shaniwar Wada Facade, Pune, India | Whatman Paper

Shaniwar Wada.... a historical fortification built by the Peshwe of Pune, India in 1732.
Although the actual palace inside which had been the residence of the Peshwes and witness to all things good & bad, has been long since destroyed, the peripherial fortification with its massive & impressive main gate, the Delhi Darwaza, still stands tall.

What better subject for an artist to draw out his tools & paint away!!!
